Our Musical Director
My Story
In September 2022, the choir’s founder and musical director, Bryan Postlethwaite, took up a new role as Head of Performing Arts at Barton Peveril College, Eastleigh.
The community choir is now led by Sue Williams (BA Hons, Music), Director of Music at Prince’s Mead School (a prep school in Winchester); joined by accompanist Janet Hunt who works with her at Prince’s Mead.
Sue has a formative background in freelance trumpet playing, having performed frequently with Southern Pro Musica, Pimlico Opera, the Wessex Brass Quintet, and many theatre pit orchestras in London and the South of England. More recently, her work as the Head of Music at Prince’s Mead School in Winchester has guided her to develop a passion for encouraging children to sing.
In 2020, her school Chamber Choir gained recognition as semi-finalists in the Songs of Praise Choir of the Year competition, only to be thwarted from competing further by Covid related restrictions. Sue is also passionate about arranging and writing music for Children’s Choirs, and her compositions are frequently featured in school productions and Carol Services.
Her love and enjoyment of singing has spread beyond the children she teaches, as she also ran a successful adult choir at Prince’s Mead. This experience has equipped well towards her new role as leader at the Wyvern Community Choir, a challenge she is going to enjoy embracing.
Wyvern Community Choir is very blessed and excited to have Sue as its new Musical Director.
